The many parts to the lovely area that is Salisbury and surrounding Wiltshire.
Living in Salisbury I feel I am extremely priveliged that I have so many amazing walks and ancient sites to look at whether its Stonehenge, the amazing bridal ways that are over huge areas of Wiltshire’s gorgeous countryside, or the beautiful Sarum castle which hosts jousting and re-enactments at varying times of the year.
Wiltshire is also place of the Salisbury International Arts Festival at the end of May through to the start of June that always has some fantastic performances and great activities set up for people needing to take part. If like to travel however and can’t wait until then I know there is the Budapest Spring Festival approaching at the end of March at the beginning of April that could be well worth a look with an equally stunning ancient city.
Wiltshire is known for its walks and cycling tracks with some fantastic landscapes to travel through. One of the roman roads carries you most of the way down to Devon which lets anyone on a budget to get on their bike and ride. As we steadily move in the direction of spring time the quantity of beautiful hot air balloons floating through the sky grows, with most providing the ability of people booking for a ride.
There are lots of beautiful villages around Wiltshire with village community life taking a hand in how the areas develop, this ensures that there is always something going on in the area. Its worth looking at local newspapers to discover what’s on in Wiltshire, or going on the net and checking one of the many community information sites online.
The historical side of Salisbury and the surrounding area has been even more refined by the efforts of the brilliant archaeological team that is based on the outskirts of Salisbury. With one of its members on the team of the renowned “Time Team” from channel 4, they are slowly taking back the layers disguising what has been before us. Many of their discoveries can be viewed in the Salisbury Museum which has a brilliant collection of historical items.
You can find facts about the locality by going into the Salisbury visitor information centre and talking to the people there, they will help inform you of events that are occurring at the time, or point you in the correct direction if you need to view specific things in the locality. As I talked about in the beginning of this article I am very lucky to be in Wiltshire and only recommend that you find out what is available before you come so that you can allow yourself enough time.
