Holly hood and Vine asked: I will be traveling to Maui with my family but have some friends who will be staying in Honolulu around the same time and would like to visit them for a day or so!

The only practical way you can go from Maui to Oahu is by plane.. you can’t take a ferry or any other kind of commercial boat.. there are no bridges…
Actually, there was a Super Ferry that went to all of the islands a few years ago, but the environmentalists ordered it out of service.. so now it’s gone..
It’s a 20 minute flight from Maui to Honolulu. you can probably get tickets at about $100 round trip…

Take the first Inter island flight of the day (it’s also cheaper) then go back in the evening. I’ve taken many a day trip to Maui. The flights to Maui are not even 30 minutes. I’d avoid Hawaiian Airlines though, they are awfully bad. In fact they were the worst reputation airline for locals before. Not sure if they changed, but just avoid Hawaiian Airlines.

Flying by airplane would definitely be the quickest. 5 years ago I too went from Maui to Honolulu, and we were surprised at how quickly the trip was, only 30 minutes! But it seemed like only 15 minutes. Tickets for this go for between $137-158/person. If you want to check where I got these statistics, I pasted the link below, they were from Expedia traveling. Have fun in Hawaii with your family, it was by far my favorite vacation I’ve taken. It’s so beautiful, and I highly suggest while your there to do three things that are definitely worth while- Go scuba diving (there are SO many beautiful tropical fish), go to a luau, and go on the hike up the mountain to watch the sunset. Those were things my family and I did, and we loved it. Have fun!!!
